:: Letter 13, Cruise 2005::
Dear next year cruiser,
The TSGB cruise experience is definitely one you will never forget. If you have the smallest inclination to go, do it! Taking classes on a ship for two months sounds weird, but it’s worth it.
The cruise had good and bad sides like anything. Let’s start with the good side. You get to go places most people will never see in their life. Even if you don’t know what to do in port, you will find people who are doing things you want to. A typical port day is getting up early, spending all day out, coming back to the ship for a quick shower, and then partying until curfew. another good thing is all the people you will meet, both Poly and CMA. Regardless of where you live, you will end up meeting everyone at one point or another. Another good thing is you get a simple uniform, so you don’t have to worry about what to wear. Lastly, Mom’s food is the best. If you are a picky eater like me, her deserts and bread are unbelievable.
I wouldn’t say there are bad things on the ship, there are just some things you will have to get used to. You’ve got your typical cafeteria food, which isn’t great. Getting up early sometimes isn’t fun. Having class six days a weeks gets annoying, but it’s not too bad. Drills are a waste of time for Poly, but cadets are learning something that could potentially save your life later. There are basically a bunch of small things that you have to get over, but the overall experience will stay with you forever.
