Health Professions Advising

College of Science and Mathematics Advising Center

Professional advisors take a holistic approach to advising; designing an academic plan that will assist students in defining academic, career and personal goals and empower students to create an educational plan consistent with those goals. These services include assistance with scheduling classes, developing long-range academic plans, career advising, as well as informing students of their graduation requirements, and interpreting university and college policy and procedures. Advisors also serve as advocates and mentors to promote student success. Students are encouraged to seek advising early and often throughout their time at Cal Poly.

Faculty Advisors

Each student is assigned to a faculty advisor in their major. It is important for students to meet regularly with their faculty advisor. Faculty advisors can help students with scheduling of classes, choosing courses in their major, deciding on an area of specialization, applying for internships and graduate programs, and providing mentoring. Students are required to see their faculty advisor for the approval of advisor approved electives for their concentration and to have course withrawals approved. Check with your major department office or the Advising Center to find out who is your faculty advisor. If after meeting your advisor, you feel that your interests or personality are not compatible, please come to the Advising Center to be reassigned to a new advisor. Please note: Liberal Studies majors are advised primarily by the Advising Center.
