November 2012
Greetings from the Dean: Fall 2012
Dean Bailey (sixth from right) with alumni and their families on a tour of the Warren J. Baker
Center for Science and Mathematics during Poly Days Alumni Weekend July 21, 2012. The
group is standing on what will be the green roof on the third floor.
Another beginning has come to Cal Poly. The upcoming year is my 44th on campus, and I’m really excited about it. The most important beginners, of course, are our 600 or so incoming freshmen and transfer students. I talked to most of them during WOW, and they’re an impressive bunch.
We’re also lucky to have 10 talented new faculty members joining the college. They’re joining an already distinguished group, including three professors from biological sciences who were honored for outstanding teaching and scholarship at Fall Conference.
Those who have been away from campus will notice big changes in the Warren J. Baker Center for Science and Mathematics. The exterior of the building is almost completely covered with bricks and glass, and you can see the architectural tie-in with the Administration Building.
Hidden away inside, the interior framing and drywall are done. The building is on track to be completed in May 2013. It’s thrilling to watch this project that so many have supported become a reality. You can read more about the construction in this newsletter.
We remain, as always, extremely grateful for all the help of our alumni, donors and friends. If you’re on campus this fall, drop by the Dean’s Office or your department office. Or send any of us an email. We’d love to catch up.
