Department of Mathematics 2006-07 Plan - April 17, 2007

On the committee during 2005-06, when this plan was proposed and adopted, the undergraduate students were Steven Tartakovsky, John Lane, and Martin Harrison. The graduate student representative was Bill Demarest.
The faculty members were Lawrence Sze, Kate Riley, Linda Patton, and Kent Morrison.

In some areas the amount spent differs from the amount budgeted. Some categories are more and others less.
If the total ends up more than $120,000, then the difference can be met using discretionary account funds.

In the 2006 summer research program there were Cal Poly math majors working with faculty advisers. We budgeted for only 9 originally.

Research funds for senior projects

Students have received some financial help on their senior projects in order to purchase a book or software.

Travel to professional meetings

Students and faculty have attended MathFest, the Joint Meetings of the AMS, MAA, and SIAM, the regional meetings of the MAA and AMS, and the Southeast Analysis Meeting.

Assigned time for probationary faculty

Two young faculty members received a one-course reduction during the spring.

Access to classes

This money has been used to help pay faculty so that we can offer the full program of classes for our major.
