clatalk
1) clatalk is the site for people to post issues for discussion about the College of Liberal Arts.
2) To post a new subject, click on "New Message." An email message box should appear, if you have enabled your browser to send mail.
3) Then, "cla@polymail.cpunix.calpoly.edu" should appear in the "to" box. This is the address for posting to the site. Notice that the "subject" line is empty. Fill that in appropriately and put your posting in the message field. Hit "send."
4) Note that there are four ways to inspect messages that have been sent to this address: by "subject" (the default index page for the site), "author," "thread" (this consists of an original message and responses to it), and "date."
5) To reply to any message, click on what is underlined. Depending on the page that you are on (see 3), this can be either the author or subject of a posting.
6) When the message then appears on your screen, read it and hit "reply" in the top bar if you wish to reply. See 3) for further details. Note that, when you reply to an existing post, the subject field already appears in the message that you are about to send. Magic!
7) I suggest that you reply to the default address, "cla@polymail.cpunix.calpoly.edu." However, be aware that you also can reply ONLY to the author of the message that you are replying to by clicking on his/her address in the "from" line in the message field.
8) This site is not part of a listserv; that is, messages posted to it do not automatically go to everyone on a mail list. If yo want to read what is new, you must go to the site itself, http://www.calpoly.edu/~cla/clatalk. (Why is this so? Simple. We do not want to clutter your mailboxes with items you do not want to read. Come here to choose what you want to read.)
9) The mailbox for the site will be reviewed three to four times a day for new messages; these then will be posted to the web site.
10) The webdwarf reserves the right to refuse to post offensive notices and to remove messages and/or threads that have lived past their shelf life.
