William Fenical (Biochem 63) receives Ernest Guenther Award in the Chemistry of Natural Products (American Chemical Society). See story.
Dr. Fenical was also awarded the Paul J. Schuer Award in Marine Natural Products. The award, established in 1991, recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of marine natural products. Fenical currently leads a team of researchers in the field of natural products chemistry from marine sources. The group investigates new treatments for arthritis and related inflammatory diseases from marine invertebrates and bacteria. His past awards include a senior Queen's Fellowship in Marine Science in Australia and a university lectureship at the University of Naples, Italy. Fenical has also received a Distinguished Alumnus Award from UC Riverside.
Steve Boone (Chem 1984), Professor and Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences at Central Missouri University, was recently in the news as a member of the team that has found the largest prime number. See Cal Poly Report.
William Frost (Biochem 72) - was the College of Science & Math Distinguished Alumnus this fall (2005). Bill has established scholarships and undergraduate research assistantships in the department that are supporting our students in their education and research opportunities.(9/05)
Colette (Toomer) Granger (Biochem 97) - and husband, Sedric (also a biochem major) have added daughter, Olivia Grace, to their growing family (son - Sedric, Jr.). Colette and family live in Columbus, Ohio.(9/05)
Nhu Y (Tran) Stessman (Biochem 94) - added a second daughter(Alice) to their crew (1st daughter - Lilianne). Nhu Y and husband, Chad, are assistant professors at CSU Stanislaus..(9/05)
John McDevitt (Chem 81) - lives with wife, Anna, in Austin, TX where he is a professor at UT Austin. John is working on an HIV detection device that can be used in Africa..(9/05)

Bill Allison joined Litton Data Systems in 1992 as vice president of integrated logistics and assumed the duties of division president in March 2000. As the vice president of engineering, he led a divisionwide reorganization and was responsible for management oversight. He has given to the College of Science and Mathematics at the Centennial Society level for several years. A few years ago he also donated a laser optics table valued at $107,000 to the Physics Department. In addition to his B.S. from Cal Poly, he holds an MBA from Pepperdine University.
