Richard Gearhart
The Director
Richard Gearhart joined the Agricultural Education & Communication Department in 2006. In addition to serving as the Director of the Brock Center for Agricultural Communication, he teaches ag communications courses.
He was born and raised in San Luis Obispo County growing up on a small “farm” caring for the family's horses, pigs, diary cattle and various other livestock. He was a member of 4-H and FFA raising project animals for various fairs and competing on the horse judging team. He continues to operate a small horse breeding facility at his home and competes with his horses throughout the U.S. During the past few years, he and his family have traveled with the horses to Oregon , Washington , Arizona , Oklahoma and even Ohio for competitions.
Gearhart is also a Cal Poly alum and has spent the past 16 years reporting and anchoring at KSBY-TV, the local NBC affiliate. In addition, he has a multiple subject teaching credential and has spent time as a classroom teacher. His media credits include print, radio and television.
He is married and has two sons.
