Thesis Abstract

Bachelor of Commerce, Agricultural Business, University of Guelph, 1996

Background:

I completed my undergraduate degree in Agricultural Business at the University of Guelph, in Canada. During that time, I spent one semester studying at the London School of Economics, in England. In 2003, I finished my Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Davis. While at UC Davis, I studied agricultural policy and international trade, and examined the economic effects of lowering trade barriers and subsidies in the global processing tomato industry.

I grew up on a farm in Ontario, Canada, that produces various field crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, and white beans, and has produced canning pumpkins and canning peas. We also raise beef cattle and have an orchard that produces McIntosh and Empire apples, among other varieties. Prior to graduate school, I traveled throughout much of Australia and South-East Asia, and spent several months working on a peanut farm in northern Queensland.
