Our Philanthropy

alpha Kappa Delta Phi's national philanthropy is Breast Cancer Awareness. Each year, more than 180,000 women in the United States learn for the first time that they have breast cancer, and more than 40,000 women lose their fight against it. As women, we feel that this is a significant issue that needs to be addressed in the community.

Throughout the year, we perform service projects dedicated to increasing public knowledge about the early detection of breast cancer and raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. At various events throughout the quarter, we have a table set up to pass out pamphlets about early detection, as well collect donations to advance breast cancer research. However, October, National Breast Cancer Awareness month, is the time for our efforts to really shine. Each year, we host "Bowl-4-The-Cure" at Mustang Lanes on the Cal Poly campus, where participants can enjoy some free pizza and learn about breast cancer, all while having some fun bowling a few strikes on the lanes.

October is also time for a favorite event of many, Pie-a-KDPhi! This event gives the public a chance to concoct a pie made of anything from whipped cream to fish sauce, and yes, that’s right, smash that pie into a sister’s face! Toppings vary in price, and all proceeds go directly to the Susan G. Koman Foundation.

In the Fall of 2007, the collective efforts of our 44 chapters nationwide enabled us to donate $21,000 towards the fight against breast cancer.
