Ocean and Fluid Dynamic Research at Cal Poly

The aim of my research is to investigate oceanography and fluid dynamics using measurements and physical modeling.

With support from the Office of Naval Research, the students and I designed and constructed our own ocean drifters, that float with the surface currents in Avila Bay.  The drifters carry GPS tracking electronics so that we can map the surface currents.  We are currently manufacturing more ocean drifters, and refining our data analysis procedures, including Kriging of the data.

For fluid dynamic investigations, we use Digital Particle Image Velocimetry to quantify 2-Dimensional flow fields.
