EPT EXEMPTIONS
The CSU English Placement Test must be completed by all entering undergraduates
with the exception of those who present official sealed proof of one of the following:
- a score of 550 or above on the critical reading section of the SAT Reasoning
Test taken March 2005 or later
- a score of 550 or above on the verbal section of the SAT I Reasoning
Test taken between April 1995 and January 2005
- a score of 680 or above on the SAT II Writing Test taken between
May 1998 and January 2005
- a score of 24 or above on the ACT English Test taken October
1989 or later
- a score of 3, 4, or 5 on either the Language and Composition or the
Composition and Literature examination of the College Board Advanced
Placement Program
- completion and transfer to the CSU of a college course that
satisfies the requirement in English Composition, provided such a
course was completed with a score of C or better
- placement in the "exempt" category on the Early Assessment of
Readiness for College English taken in conjunction with the 11th grade
California Standards Test in English Language Arts
Note: The College Board SAT and Achievement Tests were replaced by
SAT I and SAT II respectively beginning March 1994. A new recentered scoring
scale is effective April 1995.
