Human Performance Laboratory
The James Webb Human Performance Laboratory is located on the second floor of the Kinesiology Tower building. The facility is comprised of seven independent testing/evaluation rooms, chemistry and computer labs, physician's examination room, and a lecture room.
Entrance into the lab brings you into a large multipurpose testing area housing rowers, electronic and mechanical cycle ergometers, a stepping machine, and cybex isokinetic equipment.
Immediately to the right a lecture room provides a small technical library, current journals, and a place to take a few quiet moments for study.
Adjacent to the multipurpose room are two independent testing bays equipped with treadmills, ergometers, on-line respiratory gas analyzers and EKG systems.
A computer lab housing both Mac's and PC's connected to the campus network, provides a site for data analysis, ancillary class undertakings, and general laboratory-related projects.
Equipment for electrocardiography and blood assessment compliment course lectures and provide opportunity for expanded research undertakings.
The anthropometry room located adjacent to the computer lab houses a sitting height table, stadiometer, scales, tapes, calipers, flexometers, and a bioelectric impedance system for conducting measures of body composition, somatotype and general anthropometry.
Pulmonary function is assessed by means of two 13.5 liter wet spirometers, a UCI 500 dry spirometer, and an SMI-1 portable system. The facility has the capability to assess residual volume with either helium or oxygen dilution techniques.
Individual examinations are available in a patient assessment room.
Underwater weighing for density and body composition assessment is conducted in the hydrostatic weighing room located at the southwest sector of the Human Performance Laboratory.
The Chem lab located adjacent to the Hydrostatic weighing room provides a site for biochemical research and study.
