STRIDE
Science through Translational Research in Diet and Exercise (STRIDE) is an emerging university-wide, multi-disciplinary, translational research project, initiated in 2007 by the Cal Poly Kinesiology Dept. In Winter 2009, we had ~250 students representing 5 colleges from 11 majors.
Mission Statement
The emerging STRIDE's goal is to support existing agencies of the central coast in promoting healthy weight across the lifespan.
STRIDE will accomplish this by:
- Designing and assessing novel, comprehensive community-based education and intervention programs.
- Fostering the exercise and nutrition habits, skills and behaviors necessary to advance health in individuals.
- Translating the existing scientific and medical literature into feasible and sustainable community-based programs to be conducted by the central coast agencies.
- It is also our intention to strengthen the position of both the university and San Luis Obispo community agencies to secure additional funding for health promotion.
