B.A. Yale College, M.M., Yale School of Music, where he studied violin with Broadus Erle and Syoko Aki. and was the first concertmaster of the Yale Symphony Orchestra under John Mauceri. Severtson has played in the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, San Diego Opera Orchestra, San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival/Festival Mozaic Orchestra and is currently the co-Concertmaster of the San Luis Obispo Symphony. His extensive experience in chamber music performance as violinist and violist began with a family string quartet. Locally he is a founding member of the Tolosa Strings chamber group. He has also played in a rock 'n roll band, an acoustic jazz/pop group and on the Hardanger Fiddle, a Norwegian folk instrument. Since 1992, Severtson has been the development director at San Luis Obispo County's NPR station, KCBX FM.
