Winter Pops Concert: Strike Up The Band!

Cal Poly Wind Orchestra and Wind Ensemble
In 1924, George Gershwin composed a work for solo piano and band that became one of the most widely recognized pieces of music ever composed. You will hear a performance of this masterpiece, “Rhapsody in Blue,” performed by piano virtuoso W. Terrence Spiller. It is part of a concert that is dedicated to popular music written and arranged for the modern wind band. The Wind Ensemble and Wind Orchestra will perform music from movies, musicals, folk music traditions, pop culture, and even recent video games. The Winter Pops Concert only happens once every few years, so be sure to put this concert on your calendar right away!

Cal Poly Wind Orchestra and Wind Ensemble
The Cal Poly Band program recently announced it will take a performance tour of England, Ireland and Scotland in June 2013. To celebrate, the band will explore all aspects of the British musical tradition, and you are invited to share their discoveries in a concert featuring music from across Great Britain. This concert will showcase music written from as early as the Renaissance to pieces that were published in just the past few decades. It is sure to be a night to remember as the Cal Poly Bands take you “across the pond” to the British Isles, courtesy of some of the greatest music ever written.
