Cal Poly students can participate in summer quarter study abroad experiences through the Continuing Studies program via the Continuing Education Office. Currently there are two study abroad options offered in the summer quarter: the Valladolid, Spain Program and the Cuernavaca, Mexico Program.
In addition to the two summer options, Cal Poly students can participate in the Valladolid Study Program during the fall quarter.
The Valladolid Spanish Immersion Program, offered for four weeks every summer, is an intensive language-training program. Valladolid is an industrial, mid-sized provincial city located 120 miles northwest of Madrid on the Castillian mesa in the heart of Old Castile. Students study at one of the most prestigious universities in Spain, the Centro de Idiomas at the Universidad de Valladolid. The Centro de Idiomas is housed in a brand new, state-of-the-art building, and it includes a language lab and computer access for students. Participants have the option of home stays or Pensiones and speak only Spanish during their stay. The program’s Resident Director will be there to assist students with any housing issues. It is possible to earn up to eight Cal Poly units. Spanish language prerequisite is one college term. Visit the Valladolid Spanish Immersion Program web site. For further information contact Dr. Paul Hiltpold, History Department, Bldg 47 Rm 25K, 805.756.2885, or email philtpol@calpoly.edu.
Welcome to the Cal Poly Mexico Study Program. The program offers a variety of courses. Students will earn 8 quarter units of academic credit: 4 units in Spanish taught by the host institution -- OLÉ Center for Spanish Language and Culture and 4 units studying Mexican and Latin American life and culture. Courses include guest speakers, field trips, walking tours and field assignments.
The location of the school has been selected to allow students to be within walking distance of the historical, artistic and recreational attractions of the city. Students live with a Mexican family. No previous language training is required. Visit the Cuernavaca, Mexico Program web site.
