If you would like to establish a new exchange relationship with an overseas university or become involved in an existing program, you can either inquire within your department or come to the IEP office to learn more about participating in departmental exchanges. The Fulbright Scholar Program is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs. The Fulbright Scholars Program offers lecturing and research awards in some 140 countries for the 2009-2010 academic year. Opportunities are available not only for college and university faculty and administrators but also for professionals from business and government, as well as artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others. There are awards in 45 different disciplines and professional fields.
Traditional Fulbright awards are available from two months to an academic year or longer. A short term program, the Fulbright Senior Scholar Program, offers two- to six- week grants in a variety of disciplines and fields.
While foreign language skill s are needed in some countries, most Fulbright lecturing assignments are in English. Some 80% of the awards are for lecturing.
You can pick up a Fulbright Scholars Program booklet in the Grants Development office in the Math & Science Building 38 Room. The campus contact is IEP Director John Battenburg. His email is jbattenb@calpoly.edu.
