The mission of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is to develop, promote and maintain an outstanding academic environment for the preparation of students as professionals in the fields of chemistry and biochemistry. In addition, the department provides an essential role in the science preparation and science literacy required by other curricula in our comprehensive, polytechnic university.

There are currently ~300 majors enrolled in the Chemistry and Biochemistry B.S. degree programs and Master's degree in Polymers and Coatings.  The department has an excellent faculty whose focus is teaching.

Our laboratory facilities are located in the B, C, and D wings of the Science Building (52) and Room 121 (A & B) in Building 38. Department and faculty offices are in Faculty Offices East, Building 25.
